Luggnutt

Luggnutt (46)

Luggnutt; Most think it to be a funny or odd name for such a beautiful dog, but they never take into consideration that a single young male owns this beautiful specimen of fur and flees. I chose Luggnutt as my best friend’s name because it felt right, and because if I had named here fluffy or snow flake or anything along those line more people would have looked at me funny than they do now. My best friend’s history doesn’t start out with me getting her as an adorable little puppy fresh from a litter of likewise adorable puppies. Nope Luggnutt’s story starts off when I got a phone call from a then friend named Jessica; she called me up saying that she was so excited that she had a new dog. I was shocked she had gotten a dog… well more shocked that her mom had allowed her to get a dog. Her mom was kind of a neat freak, but not in the sense of having a really clean house but in the really weird way like wrapping the remotes for the TV and VCR in Ceram wrap so that they would stay clean. So I was like hey that is so cool what kind of dog is it and where did you get it. I was invited over to meet the new addition to their house and when I saw the little fur ball I was taken back for a second. Their new little dog looked exactly like the dog I had grown up with named Spooky who was an American Eskimo. Jessica told me how she had acquired this little white package of pure energy. She said she was sitting out on her front porch smoking a Newport just minding her own business when a van that was driving fast down the street suddenly slowed down to almost a stop; the side door flung open and out flew this little dog. The side door closed and the van took off as quickly as could be. Jessica said her mom was a little hesitant at first but gave in and agreed she could keep her. I was still living with my little brother Johnny at the time and was in the process of buying my house up off Char lane. Jess and I talked often and I told her how her new dog looked so much like the one I grew up with and that if she ever were to get rid out it to let me know because I would want it. After about a week in my new house Jess gave me a call and asked if I wanted the dog. Her mom couldn’t take all the shedding and her energy levels where making her mom exhausted. Whit out even thinking about I agreed to take the doggy off their hands and keep her for my own. I raced over to Jess’s house picked up my new doggy whom had some girly weird name. First thing was fist she got a name that would suite her while she stayed with me… Luggnutt; was my first and only choice for her. Lugg took to me right away and we were inseparable; I got her kibbles and bitts because at the time that was the most played dog food commercial and I figured hey if she likes it she likes it. Jess moved in shortly after as my first roommate and didn’t stay long when she left she allegedly stole Luggnutt’s dog food, a carton of 305’s and some grain alcohol; Lugg stayed with me. I had money all the time back then and used some of it to buy her some toys so as she could play if I weren’t around and so I could play with her when we were bored. Well six years latter she still hasn’t played with a single one, I think the birds got more fun from Lugg’s toys than she did. So that is how Luggnutt and I became friends and are still best of friends to this day… though her days are numbered I wanted to write this for her and for those who new my little doggy. Below are going to be pictures and little event stories with them. If you are reading this and remember a little story about Lugg just email it to me and I will add it to this page.

The picture from above saying Luggnutt is a cat killer is very miss leading since she has never killed a cat nor has she ever even hurt a cat… well to my knowledge anyhow. Luggnutt Lugg (2)does love to chase down cats and give them a little tackle and stern barking too. She did occasionally shake a few cats but they where willing subjects since they didn’t run when Lugg came at them like a bullet to its target. I could get Lugg so riled up in the house that she would believe there were cats out side and would stand up on the couch for hours just waiting to see a cat so I would let her out to chase it. It was so funny to see how quick she was and the cats would just freeze in fear because prolly all they saw was just a big white ball heading towards them.

Luggnutt (31)

Just like any dog Lugg did love to sleep in some of the strangest positions, even looking like she was dead at times. I tried to often to get pictures of her funny poses, and yes I did let her on the furniture because she was my best friend and she also got to sleep on the bed with me too. Lugg had full rein over the house and really could do no wrong.

During one of our first thunder storms I found my little puppy hiding in the dryer shaking like no tomorrow. She never got over her fear of thunder storms and would always let me know when one was coming. After her first stay in the dryer I set up a pillow in there just so she could hang out there when she wanted to. Some roommates didn’t approve and they would complain and I always had to remind them that there was a laundry mat just down the street if they felt they needed it. Luggnutt was my little princess and she picked when and where she wanted to hang out… well roommates could close there door and some times she would kick the door open if she wanted in.

Me

My old roommate Jenn from Jenn and Adam took this picture while I slept and it was a hit among everyone that saw it. This is one of my favorite pictures of me and Lugg. I have some others of me and Lugg but this one was just perfect. Luggnutt always loved to sleep next to me when I didn’t have a girlfriend. And when I did she would show her disapproval by peeing on my bed… “That only happened a few times” or peeing out where she knew I would step in it…. Those were nights when she slept in the tub alone.

Luggnutt (56)

Luggnutt always loved to check up on me to see what I was doing and she would do it in the funniest of ways. I was laying in bed one night watching tv and out of now where here pops up Lugg’s head. I looked at her and her head went back down slowly. A few minutes later her head slowly came back up to spy at what I was doing. So I got the camera phone ready for just incase it happened again. There she was spying on me. I figured she wanted to be up on the bed next to me and that is where she got to stay after such a great picture.

Here is the great Lugg in sporting her very own fake leather jacket that she loved oh so much. For real when I would get it out she would come running from where ever she was in the house just so I could put it on her. The jacket got us a lot of laughs too but most of all it got her and I a lot of awe’s too. I had a few other outfits for her that she wore sometimes. But her jacket got the most laughs.

Luggnutt (69)

Luggnutt’s dress was really only worn when we would go to Starbucks for coffee and we would get so many compliments on how great she looked and she would just eat it up. Luggnutt loved people so much and most people loved her at first site. Yeah yeah yeah I know putting a dog in clothes is strange and I only did it for the laughs I knew I would get so what ever you are thinking get it out of your head.

My dog

In the summer time when the heat was up and Lugg would pant all day everyday I would take some time and shave her down, and make her looks so ridiculous that everyone who saw her would bust out in laughter. I always though she looked a little bit like a little lion. Lol when she would run with this hair cut she always looked like she was going to fall over. I don’t know why, I guess it was because there was so much fur still on her head and none on her body, well except her tail. The lack of hair also helped keep the flees off her when she laid in the dirt.

Luggnutt has always had a fascination withLuggnutt (93) small boxes and such, like the dryer she would hide in them. Every once in a while I would put a pillow in a box, so she could be more comfortable in her box of choice. This one was at Steve and Jill’s house one Christmas and Lugg stayed in it for hours and was very content not being bothered by the kids running around messing with everything else. There have been many boxes over the years and not all of them made it into the picture albums but this was a good one of her and a box.

Lugg, Alyssa, Haily (4)

My little doggy was never too fond of children but every once in a while she would put up with them. Like when they had food or when they were sleeping and looked like a good pillow or if it was warm out and they were playing in the sand. This was a most weird day when Lugg joined the kids in the dirt. Hailey and Alyssa did not mind one bit in helping Luggnutt to cool off; I think they actually enjoyed covering her in dirt. Lugg has never been one to roll in the dirt or play in the dirt but if kids wanted to bury her she was okay with it.

If there was one thing that my dog did not like it was water, it didn’t matter if it were in the tub,133 the sprinkler, the pool or even the beach. She wouldn’t fight going in any of them but she would express her dislike of it with a small pout. Lugg was never a good swimmer she was actually a really bad one. When in the water she would just tuck her back legs up into her body and then try to swim with just her front paws. Needless to say but she would sink like a rock. I took her to the beach often and would leash her into the water where she was fine as long as she was able to stand on at least her back legs. She always looked like a little hairy person in the water because she would just try to walk the whole time. Once the leash came off though, she would high tail it back onto shore with no intent on coming back in unless I put the leash back on her.

Luggnutt though a bit of a chicken was brave in her own way. One night the roommates an I heard some ruckus outside and went to see what was making all the noise. Hoping ipousom in the yard (15)t was a cat I readied Luggnutt for the chase; once I saw it was no cat I rushed Lugg back onto the porch and began my own investigation on this ugly little creature. I did what any brave curious guy would do. I found a really big stick and poked the possum until it growled at me. Well Lugg thinking I was in trouble ran to my rescue; she pounced on the possum and growled back and retreated before she could be bit. My brave little puppy stood by my side till I chased my rodent away…. Well till I got bored of it anyhow. I have a picture of Lugg biting a rat somewhere and if you don’t see it below here that means I am still looking for the picture.

For now I will rest and continue another day to add to this page about Luggnutt

Well this may be one of my saddest posts to date. November 2nd 2009 I lost my beloved Luggnutt to old age and illness. That cool Tuesday morning went as any other day would go, our family all got up early; well I got up early and let Lugg outside to go potty. I sat down on the porch as she did her business and when she was done she came up for her morning petting. Lugg would stand on the step below me with her head rested gently on my thigh waiting for me to scratch her head and her frail thinning body, which I did without complaint. After we both had our fill I got up and made some coffee and filled Luggnutt’s bowl with fresh soft wet dog food. I got up Macey; brought her out to the living room and entertained both her and Lugg for a bit. Some point during the morning we made it back outside and Lugg was back in my lap getting her fill of loving. My puppy’s dirtiness was a little overwhelming and with an attempt to get Sarah to bond with my best-friend I asked her to give Lugg a bath and to put some Avon’s Skin So Soft on her to keep the flees away. Sarah finally gave in and washed the fragile little pooch, I was so proud of the both of them, and while Sarah cleaned Lugg Macey and I were out in the living room playing with baby toys and the camera. After Lugg and Sarah were done they came out into the living room, but Lugg wasn’t running across the carpet with her head down as to bush and dry her fur. I figured she had done it in the room and was catching her breath, though she looked a little different and even a little scared. I could tell there was something wrong and hoped it would pass; I was worried enough to asked Lugg what was wrong and she didn’t come up to me for a hug. I continued to play with my little girl and then I saw it in Lugg’s eyes, she was truly scared and was about to have a seizure. I swiftly scooped her up and took her to the porch; Lugg has a tendency to urinate during her seizures. We got to the porch and I held my lil dog as her body convulsed uncontrollably under my hands that could do nothing but try to comfort her. This seizure felt different right from the start and my tears couldn’t be held back as I realized this was my puppy’s last few minutes here with me. After it was all said and done my parents showed up to help Sarah comfort me and to find a place to have Luggnutt cremated. It was the longest drive ever to county line road where Fosters Pet Cremation Service is, handing my best-friends limp body over to a complete stranger tore me apart inside. Today… well Thursday Sarah and I went to pick Lugg up; we brought her home in a creamed colored granite urn. Lugg now is sitting in the living room where she can continue to watch the house like she has for these last wonderful six years. I am going to miss you Luggnutt.

luggnutt I love you

Here is just a few more pictures that captured Lugg’s amazing life.

Goodbye my friend.

It was so hard holding back the tears during the trip to get my doggy, knowing that I wasn’t going to pick up a living fur ball killed me so much inside. All of Thursday was hard evenLuggnutt in her urn before I had to go get her, knowing that I was never going to see her that way I have got to see her for the past six years. We arrived to the cremation place, and I went inside to pick up my angel who was now across Rainbow Bridge. The lady in the lobby knew who I was and promptly went to get my dog for me, I didn’t have to worry about the cost because my Nana picked up the tab for me knowing how much Luggnutt meant to me. I didn’t know what to say to the lady in the lobby because of being distraught and all, and the only thing that I could muster to say was “are you sure this is my dog in here?” she reassured me the only my dog was in there and that all pets are cremated in private and no ashes get mixed. I tried not to cry but a tear or so rolled into sight from behind my sun glasses as I left Fosters. Sarah really hadn’t been too sensitive over the whole thing and I can’t blame her because she really never had a chance to get to know Luggnutt as the great puppy that she was; Sarah tried to be empathetic for my sake and I thank her for that. Lugg road home on the dash of the Lincoln; it was one last ride for her and I. It really sucks not having my Luggnutts around there is so much about her that I miss.
